• Understanding that we are all a lot more alike than we think, even if on the outside we look and act differently
• Seeing ourselves in others—even those we think are so different from us
We discussed the above in Arabic and to encourage our students to visulaize kindness. We gave each student a small piece of paper with an airplane picture on it. Students were asked to colour and write their names on it. Each time a student do an act of kindness, the teacher move the airplane a little until they reach the happy face (Kindness act).
We are still working on the following goals:
Learning how to hold the pencil correctly and how to write from right to left in Arabic.
Learning about classroom rules and manners and how to be a star.
Learning the names of the 7 days of the week in order through a fun and interactive song.
Learning the names of the 12 months in order also through a fun song.
· Talking about the weather, and learning about the different vocabulary associated with that through the weather/calendar songs.
· Practicing how to answer in full sentences.
· Learning some Islamic anasheed such as (Assalam alikum, Bismillah, the five senses song, the feelings song and the body parts song), please ask your child about it.
· Singing the Arabic Alphabet song.
·
· Listening to different Islamic and Arabic stories.
Learned the name of the harakat (fatha, kasra , and dama) and how to read the letters studied with them; this has been accomplished through a number of activities, such as songs, games, stories, and competitions. The children have found these activities to be exciting and fun. Please ask your children about them and watch as they make the sounds and the actions.

Social skills:
Reading Buddies: We started the reading buddies program a couple of weeks ago with the grade 4 students. They will visit our class every second Thursday of each month until the end of the year insha'Allah. Thank you teacher Seher and grade 4 students :)
Math: We took number three. In addition we are working in the patterning unit. We will spend some time in this unit inshaAllah. We will be identifying simple patterns followed by more complicated ones. Students will also get a chance to create their own patterns through rhythms, and beats!
We talked about the weather and mainly focused on the fall season. We learned about the different colours of the leaves during the fall and we observed the transition from the summer season into the fall season. I read a book about this topic ( why the leaves fall from the trees?) and the kids participated by answering some comprehension questions about this book.
The students also collected lots of colourful leaves for some hands on science activities. The students enjoyed examining closely the different colours of the fall leaves using
the magnifying glasses and by drawing their observations in their science journals.
Hands-on-Science Activities!
We are currently learning about the five pillars of Islam. We introduced this topic by singing a new nasheed. Please ask your child about it!
Star of the Week:
We've had some shining stars in our SK2 classroom. Congratulations to the following students for being the most recent STARS OF THE WEEK: Mina and Ahmad. We hope to see many more stars brightening up our SK2 classroom inshaAllah.
The stars of the week will be selected every Friday insha'Allah based on overall behavior throughout the week, homework completion, participation, and acts of kindness.
