Twinkling Tuesdays

Assalamu alaikum!

It was great seeing everyone again today after a nice long weekend.

We started the day off today with some leveled readers followed by French class with monsieur Said.  Masha'Allah the students are getting very good at saying the date in French as well as talking about the weather, and answering questions.

In Quraan class the students worked on surat al-Qadr ad for homework they have to practice aya 4 of this sura.

During Arabic class the students wrote the letter ع in their workbooks.

We learned the sound that the letters -oa make, and we wrote these letters in our workbooks.

In the afternoon we reviewed our 3D shapes, and talked about field trip rules.

Have a good evening everyone!

Wacky Wednesday

Assalamu alaikum!

We had a very busy today alhamdulillah.  We started off the day with some educational centres.  Some students were cutting and pasting the letters of their name from a magazine (excellent for fine motor skills and letter recognition from media source).  Others were making words on the carpet with our wooden letters.  Some students were tracing shapes and making pictures out of them, and others were sorting according to colour and size masha'Allah!

We did a very quick calendar followed by Arabic class.  Teacher Salam introduced a new letter today! Mashallah the students learned the letter 'ain and vocabulary associated with this letter.  Please view Arabic blog post to read the latest  Arabic update.

In gym class the class was divided into six teams of 4, and students competed in team-building and skill-building exercises.

In the afternoon we took the colour words -yellow- and -green-.  We ended the day with a nice visit to the computer lab. *Teacher Ghada now accompanies our class to the computer lab while I teach their class English.

TOMORROW IS MULTICULTURAL DAY!

Have a great evening everyone :)

Arabic Update from Teacher Salam

S.K - Arabic
Assalamoalaikum, alhamduallah we have finished the second term with great results and are starting the third one. To date, we studied the letters from Alif to Ayn, learned words that began with these letters and became familiar with these letters through a variety of activities. We also had fun reading stories and learning new songs. I’m amazed at the Senior Kindergarten’s abilities to learn Arabic. MashaAllah!
Going forward, the students will be expected to:
* Know and read the letters from Alif to Aeen (as shown below).
* Read these letters with Fatha, Kasra, and Damma.
* Recognize words that begin with these letters.
Jazakuma  Allah Khairan

Talkative Tuesday

Assalamu alaikum!

We started our day today with some silent reading, followed by French class.  In Quraan class the students had a fun treasure hunt looking for words from the sura in the classroom.  Please help your child memorize ayas 1-3 of surat al-Qadr.

During period three we dissected our morning message to see the different types of punctuation found in this message.  We also talked about the importance of leaving spaces between the words, and starting the sentence with a capital letter following a period.

We also learned the letter Jj, and wrote the letter Jj in our phonics book.

We ended the day with some free play.

Have a good evening everyone!

Post-March Break Monday

Assalamu alaikum!

It was so nice seeing everyone after the March break :)

We started off our day with some mind-boggling puzzles.  Alhamdulillah it is great seeing the children working together to complete different types of puzzles.

We practiced our listening skills, and oral communication skill while talking about the different things we did during the March break.

During library class teacher Nancy read the story Black Dog, a book that gives the message that no matter how small you are you can still face and conquer your biggest fear!

After library we had reading buddies with the grade four class.  The students read and were read to, and they talked to their reading buddies about their March break.  It is wonderful to see the comfortable interactions between the differently aged students.

Teacher Afaaf was taking the place of teacher Ibtissam today, we are now working on surat Al-Qadr.

In phonics we learned that the letters  -ai together make the sound eh like in mail, snail, train, nail etc.

In the afternoon we wrote in our phonics books, and we had French with monsieur Said.

Have a good evening everyone!

Thinking Thursday

Assalamu alaikum,

we had a great day today alhamdulillah.  We started out the day working on some puzzles, after that we did our morning circle time which included some mathematics.  We surveyed the class to see what colour the car they came to school in was. We then took this information (data) and recorded it on a bar graph.  Students then were able to read information from the bar graph, to answer different questions.  Insha'Allah tomorrow the class will be conducting their own surveys, and recording their data.

We are learning our colour words R-E-D, and O-R-A-N-G-E.

In Quraan class the children did an activity with teacher Ibtissam she wrote down the words from the sura that they are learning and after practicing a few times teacher Ibtissam would show them the card again and the students had to identify it on their own.

During period three we took part in the character assembly for this month.  The character trait we are working on for this month is DIVERSITY.  Well done to our students that did were chosen as outstanding leaders in our classroom.

In gym class today we played capture the flag, it was our first time playing this game so we are going to work out some strategies to make sure that we are playing this game properly.

We also attended an assembly for the quraan competition, all participating students received medals masha'Allah.  Congratulations to our friend Daoud for making it to the finals!!! We'll be cheering him on insha'Allah.

In the afternoon we had our reading program, today was the blue, red, and green groups' turns.

Have a great evening everyone!

Marvelous Monday

Assalamu alaikum everyone!

We really did have a marvelous Monday today.  Daoud and Mesk's absence was clearly felt, we ask Allah swt to grant them both a speedy recovery.

In the morning we started off our day with some puzzles, followed by a nice talk about our weekends.  It sounds like many of you took advantage of the beautiful weather we had over the weekend mashallah!  During circle time we also graphed out our last names according to the number of syllables in them.  We then collected this data on a bar graph, as well as a pie chart.  We analyzed the data and found out that most kids in the class have last names with 3 syllables in them.

We didn't visit the library today because it was being used by the school for the supply teacher orientation session.  During that time we worked on making 3D shapes with toothpicks and playdough, the students really exceeded my expectations during this hands-on activity.

During Quraan class that class is still working on surat al-Qaria, they are recognizing the heavy letters in this sura masha'Allah.

Outdoor play was lots of fun today, the weather was gorgeous and the snow was sticky.

After nap time we did a little bit of silent reading followed by an Islamic Studies lesson on My Community.

The last period of the day was French with monsieur Said, then students worked on some new vocabulary and they worked on the letter Ww.

Have a great evening everyone!

Thinking Thursday

Assalamu alaikum!

We had an amazing today alhamdulillah.  Our dear friend Mesk was greatly missed, we hope to see her back with us tomorrow insha'Allah.

We started off the day with Quraan with teacher Ibtissam, mashallah she did some fun quraan-related activities with the children.

Period three was Arabic with teacher Salam, the students worked on their portfolios.

During period four we could not go to the gym because of the bake sale so we stayed inside the classroom and played heads-up-seven-up for half the class and talked science for the second half.

It was indoor recess so we had fun exercising with Mr.Noodle's indoor recess video.

After lunch we did some silent reading, and worked on finishing up our portfolios.

Today was the blue, orange, and red groups' turn for the reading program.

Have a great evening!

The class then had Arabic with teacher Salam and they worked on the letters ط ظ  with fatha, damma, and kasra.

During gym class the students had the chance to explore some of the school's gym equipment.  Some chose hula hoops, some chose balls and they had fun sharing and playing with each other.

It was indoor recess today, so we used that time to finish up some work and work on our portfolios.

In the afternoon we worked on our writing and we visited the computer lab.
