Starr Gymnastics Thursday

Assalamu alaikum,

we had a full class today masha'Allah.  It is great seeing all of our friends in the class with us today alhamdulillah.

We started off the day with some educational centres, followed by calendar.  During calendar we read about the solar system, and learned the meaning of the words: orbit, and constellation.

During gym class we got to take part in a fun obstacle course set up by the Starr gymnastics people.

We watched a Magic School Bus video on outer space.

We ended the afternoon with reading buddies.

A big thank you goes to sister Nesreen, for running our reading program on Thursdays.  Masha'Allah the children really enjoy being part of this program and they are already benefiting so much from it.

Have a great evening,

Assalamu alaikum and happy Earth Day to everyone!

We started off our day with a variety of Earth Day activities, followed by a trip to the library.  At the library Teacher Nancy read us a non-fiction book that talks about how animals recycle in the wild subhanallah.

In the afternoon we transformed the classroom into a movie theatre and watched the first part of the movie Charlotte's Web.

Thank you to all of you that sent your children in wearing blue and green today.

Earth Day is Tomorrow

Assalamu alaikum,

here are some things we covered over the past two days:

Science: Experimenting with objects that float or sink, and recording our observations.

Math: Review of 3D shapes.

Language: Review of all sounds learned so far, and introduction to new sound -th.

Islamic Studies: Importance of keeping ourselves, and our environment clean.

Reading: At the Shore Shop.  A small guided reading book that has the -sh sound.

Gym:  Simon says, ant tag, and pac-man.

We have finished reading our classroom book Charlotte's Web.  The children felt sad and happy to hear about Charlotte dying, and how she left behind lots of baby spiders.

Have a great evening everyone!

Toy Sale Success & Fun Friday

Assalamu alaikum!

Alhamdulillah we've had a very busy couple of days.  Yesterday we started off our day emptying out all of the items that we had collected for the Toy Sale.  A big jazakum Allahu khairan to all of you that helped make this event successful.  Alhamdulillah we managed to raise $500!!!!!

Students came in today and started working on their -sh sound booklet.  A few of them got started on it, while the rest will be working on it on Monday insha'Allah.

In the computer lab we visited the website www.starfall.com.  The students clicked on their Earth Day activities and had lots of fun sorting recyclable material into the right containers.

Our morning message today was the tongue twister "She sells sea shells by the sea shore".  We introduced the sound -sh through the story of baby Lubna, who has been visiting our classroom since yesterday.

In art class we worked hard on making animal masks that we will be using for our classroom drama class insha'Allah.

The students worked hard on writing the -sh practice pages in our phonics book #6.

We reviewed the steps of wudu', and the five daily prayers.  Alhamdulillah we prayed thuher together, and our imam for the day was Adam!

We ended our day with a nice little treat from Tr.Safiah.

Have a great weekend everyone,

Arabic Festival Wednesday

Assalamu alaikum!

We started off our day today by having some activity centres, and some of the children used that time to finish up some of their work.

As part of our reading focus for the month of April we worked on our guided reading booklet, Chip and Chad .  The students will be bringing these booklets home tomorrow insha'Allah, and you can continue to practice reading and pointing with them at home.

We had the wonderful opportunity of attending the Arabic Festival.  This was an event full of nasheed, poetry, and plays.  The children good a glimpse of what their future at Abraar School has in store!

In science we talked about the importance of recycling.  We also talked about the proper way of disposing of old batteries.

We are reaching the end of our classroom book Charlotte's Web, the children are really into this story and are excited to hear the next chapter: The Last Day.

Have a great evening,

Arabic Update from Teacher Salam

Asalamualaikum,
This is what we have been working on lately; we have:
  • reached the letter Ayn ع  in the alphabet; and
  • reviewed previous letters from seen س  to tha ظ   using different class activities.
These class activities use fun, active, and interactive learning strategies. We are also concerned with enhancing students' thinking skills using different methods. Soon, ISA, we plan on teaching maad letters and a new nasheed. Our expectations from the students' until now include:
  • knowing all the letters from Alif أ  to Aynع  ;
  • pronouncing them with fatha, kasra, duma; and
  • saying vocabulary including these letters.
JAK,

Tr. Salam

3D Shapes and the Letter Y

Assalamu alaikum,

I hope everyone had a nice long weekend insha'Allah.

We started off our morning with some activity centres, followed by Arabic class.

The children got a chance to tell us all about their activities over the weekend.  We then did our usual calendar routine followed by two stories that help with confidence-building.

We introduced the letter Yy, through two different stories, and we brainstormed for different words that start with that sound.

In gym class we had a discussion about stranger safety, and then we had a chance to play with some of the gym equipment.

In the afternoon we started writing in our phonics book #6, and we also introduced the following 3D shapes: cube, and rectangular prism.

I hope you have a great evening,

It's Thursday, but it feels like Friday!

Assalamu alaikum,

today we started off our day finishing off some of our work.  We then had a quick calendar time.  At 9 o'clock we headed off to the gym to watch the Quraan Competition.  Congratulations to Aamina Shariff for winning first place in the SK component of the competition, masha'Allah she did really well.

We lost our gym class today, but we had lots of fun playing in our classroom instead.

We had some more practice time for the letter - ع in Arabic.

The weather is getting nicer alhamdulillah, we had a chance to play hopscotch outside.

In the afternoon we got to enjoy an episode of Diego, followed by two stories related to boosting self-confidence and loving ourselves.

Have a great long weekend everyone.

Spring Reading at the Library

Assalamu alaikum,

today we started off our day with our fun, and educational centres.  The children had fun with a science experiment involving whipping cream, food colouring, and soap!  They also had the chance to make popsicle stick puppets, search for pompoms in rice, and play roll and record masha'Allah.

We read our morning message "what is your favourite animal?", and talked about what we had for breakfast.  It is extremely important that your child has a nutritious breakfast before coming to school.

During library period teacher Nancy read us a nice non-fiction book about Spring, and the changes that happen in the Spring.

During Quraan time we worked on reviewing our suraas, with the main focus being surat-Al-Kafiroon.

We also worked on writing in our journals today!

We really miss some of our dear friends that are not feeling so well.  May Allah swt heal them from all that is making them sick.

Have a great evening,
