Rainy rainy Monday

Assalamu alaikum everyone,

today we started off our day with some activity centers, followed by a recitation of our 9 du'aas masha'Allah.

The students had a chance to talk/listen to each other talk about their weekends.

We had a special visit in our classroom today by teacher Nirmeen and some lively caterpillars.  Teacher Nirmeen read us the Eric Carle story The Very Hungry Caterpillar, and we all sang a lovely song from the book.  Teacher Nirmeen left four containers of caterpillars for us to observe, and monitor as they start building their chrysalis.

It was raining today which means indoor recess!  Some students had lots of fun role-playing with some items from the dress-up trunk, while other students were creating cards and letters at the writing center.

In the afternoon we read Robert Munsch story Give Me Back My Dad.

Please remember that the Bike Rodeo date has changed to June 2nd, 2015.

***The spirit day for the month of May is coming up this Thursday, the students will get to dress up in their favourite fantasy costumes. ***

Have a good evening,

Tuesday, May 19th, 2015. One month to Ramadan!

Assalamu alaikum,

It was great to hearing about everyone's activities during the long weekend.  It seems that everyone had fun, and enjoyed spending some time outdoors.

During Arabic the children had the chance to work on a craft related to the letter -laam.  Ask your child about this craft today.

We have modified our calendar routine, because the children asked for it to be changed.  So now we do a very quick calendar followed by a letter sounds review, and math drills.

In phonics we took the sound -ue as in the word RESCUE, and BARBECUE.

We read two wonderful stories, and spent some time in the city park.

Please make sure your children have the following items with them during the upcoming hot Spring/Summer days:

- water bottle
- sun hat
- sun screen
- weather appropriate clothing

Thank you to all of you that have sent in extra snacks, and tissue boxes.  If you have not sent in your graduation fee yet, please email me and let me know the reason, or send it in by TOMORROW.

UPCOMING DATES:
-  Thursday May 21, field trip and French Cafe (please send in some change if you would like your child to purchase a food item from the French Cafe).

- Tuesday May 26, Bike Rodeo.

Thank you, and have a great evening.

Ant Farm and Community Day

Assalamu alaikum,

there has been so much excitement going on in our classroom!

The science department in our school has ordered an Ant Farm for our classroom.  Alhamdulillah we have been monitoring the ants and watching them dig their tunnels inside their gel ant farm.

Today was Community Day and we had visits from the following people:

- Nurse Ubah
-The Fire Department
-Dr.Asma
- Dr.McIntosh (veterinarian)
-Constable Kerry (police officer).

The children had the chance to learn about these occupations, and ask many different questions.  We even had the chance to go inside the fire truck!!!!

Mathematical Monday

Assalamu alaikum,

today we started off our day by talking about our weekends.  Masha'Allah it seemed like lots of the kids from the class either bumped into each other, or saw each other at different places over the weekend.  It is nice to heart that the children socializing even outside of school.

In math class we introduced addition, and the children were great at working with manipulatives to figure out the answers to simple addition problems.

We watched a Discovery Channel video on our galaxy, and we practiced reading in our Solar System booklets alhamdulillah.

Have a great evening!
